Emergency responders stopped traffic on Highway 17 southbound outside Richmond Hill after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle.

According to Assistant Chief Otis Willis with Bryan County Emergency Services, a man was walking on the side of the road around 3 p.m. near Cartertown Road and Highway 17 when he was hit by a truck.

“I don’t know what kind of truck it was, but the crew is landing a helicopter now to fly him out,” Willis said.

Authorties from the Fleming Fire Department said the man was transported to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, though his condition was unknown.

Further information was not immediately available.
