Dozens of students at Richmond Hill United Methodist Day School went green on Thursday to celebrate the Irish during the school’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Children waved to parents and grandparents as they pedaled bikes, rode scooters, pushed strollers or pulled wagons.

Melissa Varnedoe said her daughter, Cora, enjoyed waving to the crowd while she went through the parade route around the church and through the parking lot.

“I thought it was really cute,” Varnedoe said of the parade. “It was nice for everyone to get to be what they wanted with dressing up and riding what they wanted.”

Debra Villagomez, who thought the parade was “adorable,” was there to watch her daughter, Alyahna, who was in the parade for the first time. Villagomez said Alyahna had been excited about the event.

“She was excited and happy to be dressed up and seeing all other friends and to push her stroller,” she said.

According to Richmond Hill United Methodist Day School Director Gina Stephenson, the parade is a tradition at the school to “piggyback” off of the festivities and celebration in Savannah each year.

“This is my fifth year here and it was going on well before that,” Stephenson said.

This year’s parade was “awesome,” she added, noting the children had been excited for days.

“It’s the highlight of the year,” she said.
