Bryan County residents who appreciate fine arts now have the opportunity to help bring to life a building that could one day be an outlet for area artists and more.
According to Patricia Starling, founder of the Bryan Performing Arts Steering Committee, the idea is something that has been in the works for more than three years. The committee will hold a community meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Richmond Hill-Bryan County Chamber of Commerce to introduce the idea to the public.
She said the idea came from watching numerous drama productions, band concerts and other productions put on by students in Bryan County schools. She said facilities the schools have do not offer the proper equipment for such things.
“It’s just phenomenal all this wonderful talent we have in our back yard,” she said, noting she knows South Bryan residents who have attended the London Performing Arts Academy, Juilliard and other artistic institutions.
Having a facility like this in Bryan County would be beneficial for not only the students across the county, but also for area residents who participate and appreciate fine arts, she said.
Preliminary ideas for the project include a 1,250-seat auditorium, a ballroom, classrooms and educational spaces for after school programs, green room spaces, loading docks, restrooms and possibly a café.
