Their sacrifices must never go unremembered

Letter to the editor

POSTED: September 19, 2012 7:00 p.m.

Editor, What Happened to the Sept. 11 Freedom Walk on Fort Stewart? I heard through the grapevine that it may have been canceled due to a “lack of cost effectiveness.”

Maybe if we canceled some other wasteful events, those that are important to remember can be remembered. The cancelation of the walk to honor some of America’s heroes makes me wonder if we do care what happened in the past. I am proud to know that some schools and organizations had the ability and the gumption to observe this date. I know that next year, there will be a Sept. 11, 2001, observance/freedom walk some place in the area, even if I have to organize it.

With the turmoil in the world today, we must never forget what happened in the past. If we forget what happened in the past, we will most likely ensure that it will happen again.

The sacrifices of our military members, firefighters, law-enforcement personnel, EMS members and the numerous others who put their lives on the line each and every day must never go unremembered. For without them, where would we be?
