Skate park moves to more visible location

Ozzy Park, the skate park in Richmond Hill Park now has a new location thanks to SPLOST funds.

Residents who frequent the Richmond Hill Park off of Ball Park Road may notice a slight difference in park amenities.
Ozzy Park, the skate park named after Marcus Wallace, the local teen who was killed while skateboarding in 2002, now has a new home in Richmond Hill Park. Formerly behind the tennis courts in the park, the skate park is now in a more visible location between two recreation fields.
Mark Wallace, father of Marcus Wallace, made several requests to the county to move the park after it became the target of vandalism. County Administrator Phil Jones said that request in addition to concerns from local police is why the park was moved.
“The equipment was being abused and spray painted and there were folks going in there and doing all kinds of stuff,” Jones said. “The local police said because of its close proximity to the woods a lot of inappropriate things were going on and it needed to be more visually available.”
