Violent thunderstorms blew through the area Sunday evening causing power outages and downed trees throughout the area and the county.

Two pine trees were blown down at the Pembroke Public Library. One tree fell in the middle of the parking lot while the other was uprooted by the strong winds in front of the building, knocking down the library's flag pole, striking another oak tree and crushing a bench.

Trees fell throughout the rest of North Bryan, and according to Bryan County Emergency Services Director William Collins, the areas of Pembroke, Bacontown and Lake Lorraine were hit hardest in the county. The biggest issue from the storms was power outages due to trees on power lines, he said. No injuries or deaths were reported from the storms.
