Guyton event on Sunday, Monday

POSTED: June 21, 2012 7:13 p.m.

I covered NFL linebacker Gary Guyton when he was in high school at Bradwell Institute. Good kid, heck of a high school player and he told me one practice before the start of his senior year that he planned on making it to the NFL. He kept his word.

At any rete, Guyton will be back in Hinesville giving back to local kids on Sunday and Monday. Bryan County kids are welcome to attend, too.

Here's the press release, pretty much straight from the email inbox.

Hinesville, GA (6/15/2012) Help us spread the word and tell others
about 3rd Annual Coastal Georgia Kids & Pros Day hosted by NFL player
Gary Guyton (LB Miami Dolphins). The event will be held June 24-25,
2012 in Hinesville and will feature a variety of events involving NFL
players. The event is produced in partnership with Flying Colors
Sports, a marketing and community relations firm that works with pro
The event kicks off Sunday at 6:00 pm with the Coastal Georgia leg
of the Great Amazing Race for Youth. Modeled after the popular
television show "THE AMAZING RACE", teams of two (2) race against
other teams around a one (1) mile cross country course that includes
up to eight (8) fun-filled challenge stations. The clue cards instruct
the teams to complete a task (game, relay, obstacle course, etc.)
before proceeding to the next challenge station. Contestants should be
prepared to get a little dirty and wet - it's part of the fun .
On Monday, the fun continues at 9:00 am, as Guyton and his NFL
friends teach kids in grades 1st - 6th some NFL style skills and
drills. Simultaneously, there will also be a cheer clinic where kids
will learn jumps, moves and chants. At 11:00 am, Gary then leads kids
in grades 7th - 12th in a position specific skills clinic where they
are taught some of the techniques being used in the NFL.
Gary has enlisted the support of his NFL friends to help make this
event a success. The goal of the event is to expose area youth from
Bryan, Camden, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long, and McIntosh
counties to professional and collegiate athletes in hopes that they
too will aspire to achieve to their fullest potential and give back to
the community as well.
We would like to invite area businesses and organizations to
support this 3rd Annual Coastal Georgia Kids & Pros Day by becoming a
sponsor. The event is expected to draw hundreds of residents from the
surrounding counties. Proceeds benefit the Gary Guyton Foundation,
which promotes daily family engagement in three home activities
(physical exercise, reading a book and healthy eating) that have the
power to improve student's academic performance and family quality of
