Pembroke residents will soon have a plethora of activities to participate in throughout the summer thanks to new leadership of the city’s summer recreation program.
At the Pembroke City Council’s regular meeting Monday, Mayor Mary Warnell introduced three new employees who will help with the city’s summer recreation programs: Recreation Director Carol Wilson, Pool Manager Phyllis Anderson and Activities Coordinator Lee Lawrence.
“We thought they each had outstanding qualifications that would add to the program, such as organization, management, discipline and experience in working with children,” Warnell said Tuesday.
The program, dubbed “Summer in the City,” will include activities for children ages 4-10 throughout June and July.
In June and July, T-ball will be offered to children ages 4-6. For children ages 7-10, softball will be offered in June and kickball and soccer will be offered in July.
Activities at the city pool will also be a part of the summer recreation program. Warnell said swimming lessons and water aerobics will be offered at the pool, which opens at 1 p.m. May 26.
That day only, the city will host a free swim day for city residents from 1-6 p.m. Warnell said there also will be recreation program information and sign-up sessions along with refreshments offered at noon before the pool opens.
