The mosquitoes are here, already

Spring and summer-like conditions continue to roll into the coastal area, bringing out the pesky little buzzing creatures that tag along with warmer seasons—most notably mosquitoes.
“Mosquitoes seemingly have already been bad—I live in Chatham County and they have been bad at my house,” said Sally Silbermann with the Coastal Health District. “We had a fairly warm winter and that didn’t help.”
Silbermann said while officials at the Coastal Health District usually begin issuing mosquito prevention warnings in June, they are urging residents early to use caution when outdoors.
She encourages residents to remember the five D’s of prevention when it comes to mosquitoes—DEET, Dress, Dawn, Dusk and Drain. First, she said, people who are typically outdoors at dawn and dusk, when mosquitoes are most active, should wear bug spray that contains DEET.
