Richmond Hill reports sewage spill

POSTED: March 5, 2012 10:17 a.m.

Richmond Hill reported Friday that about 1,650 gallons of sewage were spilled into Sterling Creek Canal.
The spill occurred at approximately 11:42 a.m. on Feb. 29, according to a press release faxed to the News.

The spill was caused by a ruptured manhole at Harris Trail Road and Bristol Way, according to the city.
"The affected areas are being pumped out and are being limed and cleaned to eliminate debris," the release said. "Corrective action also includes installing a new gravity line sewer and gravity manhole."
