According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, S.C., Bryan County is one of many counties statewide currently under a wind advisory and tornado watch.

The wind advisory is effective until 7 p.m., and could affect both coastal and inland portions of the county. Southwest winds between 20 and 30 mph with gusts of up to 45 mph are likely throughout the afternoon and early evening.

A tornado watch is in effect until 8 p.m. tonight. Different from a warning, a tornado watch means the potential exists for tornadoes to form. When a warning has been issued, that means a tornado has been spotted or is occurring.

Severe thunderstorms are also likely to develop throughout the afternoon according to the National Weather Service's website.

The National Weather Service encourages motorists to use extra caution while driving, especially on bridges and overpasses.
