GSU moving some offices off campus

POSTED: June 7, 2011 10:06 a.m.

STATESBORO — Georgia Southern University is moving some of its offices to downtown Statesboro in an expansion aimed at helping recruit and develop local businesses.

The university plans a grand opening Thursday for its City Campus. Located next to Statesboro's city hall, it's actually barely a mile from Georgia Southern's main campus.

However, campus and city officials are hoping the move pays off by helping boost economic development in downtown Statesboro.

The City Campus houses the university's Bureau of Business Research and Economic Development as well as resources to help new small businesses. It also has classroom and meeting space, plus a store selling Georgia Southern merchandise.

Allen Muldrew of the Downtown Statesboro Development Authority said he sees the City Campus as a launch pad for successful, locally owned businesses.
