Pembroke City Council is backing efforts by the housing counseling agency JCVision and Associates to survey Pembroke homes for lead-based paint.

The project is part of efforts to rehabilitate homes owned by low-income residents with grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

After identifying 24 homes as potentially in need of work, JCVision is teaming up with Georgia Southern University and Savannah State University to conduct a survey of more residents and test of homes for lead paint.

Hinesville-based JCVision has already been awarded more than $300,000 for home rehab work in the area, and the agency is working on applications for $900,000 more, said JCVision Executive Director Dana Ingram.
